When we knew we would be life partners we created a “three-year plan.” We would live in the California Bay Area, work corporate jobs, and get ready to start our family. At the end of three years we planned to move to Japan.
In those three years we brought our families and friends together, became a household, got two kittens, travelled internationally, got engaged, saw beater cars come and go, moved into a crappy studio apartment, got promotions at work, hosted our dream wedding, and got out of debt.
At the end of 2019 we moved into a cabin in the woods and left our corporate jobs to calm our pace of life and pursue our callings.
Then the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and we felt called to accelerate a number of life plans. Thomas started his own business and I became a homemaker. In a way life was simple and quiet during that time, but we felt more than ever it was time to make some changes.
Now we still plan to live in Japan one day, but there will be a few other steps along the way. Next up?
Moving home.
We left our cabin in California to live with family in Oregon. We are seeking the flexibility of being lease-free, and above all else a space that feels like home and a life with the rhythm of family.
After many weeks of planning what to pack, and of visualizing the design of our rooms, the time came to move. Days of packing, a U-Haul trailer, and a road trip with parents later we arrived.
Here we are and we can’t wait to live out the next chapter of life.
